2010 Walk Now For Autism Speaks
This year my family and friends are coming together to form TEAM NATHAN and participate in the 2010 Walk Now For Autism Speaks event being held April 17th. My oldest son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome a few years ago and this is a great way to raise money for research for Autism! This is our first year and I am the team captain and honestly, its been a little overwhelming! Never the less, we are getting things done and getting ready! My Mom and I made Team Nathan t-shirts the other night and they came out awesome, so I wanted to share a few pictures.
We bought Simply Spray fabric spray paint instead of tie-dye and it was so so easy. Then we bought printable iron on transfers and wha-la!!

I Am Lazy....
...there I said it! I get online everyday and research, check out the news and gossip and read others blogs, but never seem to update mine!
Where to begin?!
Corbin had his surgery and it was a breeze! We sat in the waiting area about 20minutes before the surgeon came out to get us. Corbin had a little trouble coming out of the anesthesia; he was so sleepy. His hearing has also been restored since the surgery, which is awesome...now I know its all about the selective hearing when he doesn't listen LoL.
Austin has been very sick lately. Poor little man can't seem to catch a break. He was running a 101.7 fever and coughing and congested for almost a week before we found out he had tonsillitis. He was given Amox.icillin and some drops for his ears b/c they were blocked with wax. he got better and then after a few days broke out into this horrible rash/hives like he had last year. So back to the ER we went and after some researching and tests found he is allergic to Amox.icillin! He was covered from head to toe in hives and couldn't stop scratching. They gave him steroids and bena.dryl for the next couple of days and it seems to be clearing up.
I have been sick as a dog with another Upper Resp. Tract Infection. I am on Aug.mentin, Flo.nase & a nasty cough syrup...yuck! I stayed in bed as much as possible the past couple of days. My own fever reached 100.6 and I was constantly blowing my nose. It wasn't a pretty sight. My poor husband toughed it out and slept next to me while I loudly breathed through my mouth every night!
That's about it....just taking care of everyone here on the home front! Oh, I forgot...This weekend my family and friends are coming together for an Autism Walk. My oldest son was diagnosed with Asper.ger Syndrome a few years back and we wanted to show our support so we decided to make a team and tomorrow Nate and I are going to tie-dye our team shirts!!
Hope all is well with everyone, Night!

Yet Another Surgery...
On March 22nd Corbin will be having tubes placed in his ears. He has had 6+ ear infections in the year since he has been born. Also, when they did his hearing test he showed no activity in his right ear. So at this time he is deaf in his right ear. The doctor said it is possible he has a build up of fluid and that is the cause for the hearing loss. However, he also told us it is possibly due to the ear infections and permanent. We won't know until after the surgery.
Nathan has undergone 2 surgeries; his first was when he was 2 and the other when he was 3...so I know what to expect, but Corbin is so young (13months) and I worry about him b/c his health hasn't been the greatest. He has had numerous ear infections, upper respiratory infections, pneumonia and suffered from a febrile seizure just last month. I know I'm going to be going crazy that day, but I know he will be okay.

A Mother's Fear...'He's not breathing!'
Around 4:30am my life stood still...
I had allowed my youngest son, Corbin to sleep in bed with me because he had started running a fever (100.6) and was extremely fussy. I had given him Tyl.enol around 11:00pm and went to sleep then hoping for a few hours of rest.
A few hours later my bed started to shake. When I rolled over I saw Corbin convulsing. His eyes were in the back of his head and he was twitching from head to toe. I yelled for my husband and grabbed the phone to dial 911. My husband rolled Corbin over onto his side and then looked at me and screamed, "He's not breathing! He isn't breathing!"
The next couple of minutes were the worst of my life.
While on the phone with the dispatcher Corbin came to. He didn't scream, cry or make any noise. He simply blinked and then fixed his eyes on the ceiling. Paramedics arrived and I quickly grabbed my sweatshirt and rode with Corbin to the hospital.
Corbin appeared to suffer from a febrile seizure. His temperature was 104.7. It took some time but the ER staff was able to get it down to 101.1. They placed oxygen and a little pulse-ox on his foot because his heart rate was over 200 and his O2 level was below 80. After numerous tests they told me he has Pneumonia. I immediately felt terrible b/c he had a cough for about a week, but I didn't think much of it.
They monitored him for a bit and allowed him to come home with me. They gave him antibiotics and made a follow-up appointment with his pediatrician.
He has been sleeping most of the day and is still running a fever. He is really out of it.
For a few minutes this morning I honestly and seriously thought I was going to lose my son. Watching what he went through and hearing my husband tell me he wasn't breathing was....well, something I didn't think I'd ever have to experience. So many thoughts and fears raced through me and the tears came uncontrollably. I cradled him in the ambulance and told him how much I love him and how much he needed to be strong. I couldn't imagine life with out Corbin. I am so thankful he is still here with us and will be okay.

this, that & prayer
Thank goodness for our tax refund. We are one of the many families suffering from the economy and have been struggling for months! My husband had been laid off from his HVAC job, and then he had to leave his job at a warehouse b/c he fell very ill with Crohn's Disease and required surgery, then I had to leave my job b/c I was only being scheduled for 8hrs a week! On top of all that, we had our 3rd child in the beginning of the year and had our wedding in August...CRAZY!
So yea, we went and got our taxes done and were able to pay off some bills and get caught up on others. We then splurged a little and bought a new sofa/love-seat. We've never had new furniture, it's always been hand-me-downs. It's nice to have something new :)
On a sad, but important note...I ask you for prayers for the family of my landlord. On January 2nd his daughter was involved in a head on collision. She suffered major injuries due in part to lack of an airbag. She was actually dead upon arrival but was able to be revived and was airlifted to a near by hospital. She has suffered lacerations to her face and broken many bones and required numerous stitches. She also broke 3 vertebrae in her neck and required a plate. She seemed to be doing better, but within the last few days she coded twice. This last time they needed to place a trache. She was at 70% speech and 20% short term memory, but after this last time they aren't sure where she stands. She is able to open her eyes, and move her mouth, but doesn't speak. She spent her 21st birthday in ICU. Please pray for her and her family through this terribly tough time.

CJ's 1st Birthday
It's been a while since I have updated, but it has been crazy here. Corbin was sick with a terribly high fever. Now he seems to have Roseola. Poor kid can't catch a break. But one the up side he celebrated his 1st birthday!
